After sometime
Wife is talking…
Husband is listening…

After sometime
Wife is talking…
Husband is listening…

After sometime
Wife is talking…

Train arrives at central station

Husband while listening to his wife gets up
and walks towards the door…

Caste Away, Please!

Posted: May 18, 2013 in Lokee's

How many of you think that caste has a big influence on a day to day basis in India? I do. I called my wife and asked her what she thinks. She agrees too. BUT…

me: We all talk about doing something about the caste system. The change should start somewhere somehow. I am thinking about removing my last name and surname. Then use my mother’s name as middle name and my father’s name as last name. What do you think?

my wife: First, we have lot of other things to do.

Well what can i say. There is nothing wrong in her response though. We are stuck with busy and competitive life. There seems to be not enough room for community issues. By community i mean public and not communities based on language, religion. caste, colour, region or finances.

In my opinion, caste is something like a status update on your social network. While we see it as a simple thing, the social networks know how valuable that simple update is.

Sometimes people ask me ‘what religion are you?’.

I reply, ‘i am a hindu’.

Sometimes people ask ‘which god do you believe in most?’.

I reply with few names of hindu gods.

Sometimes people ask me ‘do you believe god exists?’.

I have a BLANK face. Then a YES. Then a NO. Then May Be. This is the reason why i think i enjoyed the hindi movie ‘oh my god’ just like my friend explained here omg-much-needed-awareness-for-god-sake.

No one ever asked me like ‘how long did your god exist for?’

or

‘how long have you been a hindu?’

or

‘are your parents hindu TOO?’

or

‘why specially hindu? why not other religion’

Now that no one ever asked me, so let me ask these questions to myself and this is what i think it is –

Yeah, the god for me exists like for around 30 years. You might have guessed it right, yeah, thats my age now. Oh my G-o-D, i am getting older, sigh. Apparently, all these gods happened to be hindu gods and that made me a hindu. And not just that. Like every child I learnt many things from my parents in my childhood and one of that is religion and they happened to be hindus and this continued from since then.

After i questioned myself, i am very eager to ask the same questions to some one. The only person i find around me is my son. Please be patient while i am asking these questions to my son –

Hey son, here i come,

This is what my son replied to all the questions, ‘ ‘. Yes, a ‘ ‘. Can you believe that, a ‘ ‘. Come on son, how come you have no answers, you are like 15 months old now. Is it because you dont understand what i am saying? or is it because you still cant say words? or is it because you do not know who the god is? or is it because you  are born a human and dont belong to a religion at birth? Come on you have to say something.

Can you believe him again, it is a ‘ ‘ again. a ‘ ‘. Oh my G-o-D, a ‘ ‘.
